Question: Can you freeze raw green onions?

Freezing green onions doesnt require blanching. Just slice off the roots and leaf tips, wash and dry well, chop, and freeze. Green onions adapt well to flash freezing. Place the chopped portions on a parchment-lined tray, pop it in the freezer, and when frozen, stash the onions in freezer containers or bags.

Does freezing an onion ruin it?

Freezing whole onions is not recommended. They will be hard to thaw and use. It is best to cut onions before freezing. If you desperately want to freeze whole onions, you need to blanch them – boil them in hot water for about 7 minutes or until the very center is heated through.
