A draft is the mandatory enrollment of individuals into the armed forces. The United States military has been all-volunteer since 1973. But an act of Congress could still reinstate the draft in case of a national emergency.

Are you forced to be drafted?

Legally, you could be in a lot of trouble if you dont register: Its a felony. However, no one has been prosecuted for the crime since 1986. But that doesnt mean you wont have problems. If you fail to register for the draft by the time you turn 26, you are no longer able to do so.
