Question: Can you name a child numbers?

The law bans names that contain “obscenity, numerals, symbols, or a combination of letters, numerals, or symbols…”, but naming a child after a mass murderer is A-OK. In most cases, the United States is pretty relaxed about what you can name your child when it comes to the stigma or meaning a name may carry.

Can numbers be in a name?

The first character of a name cannot be a number. Remaining characters in the name can be letters, numbers, periods, and underscore characters. A name can contain up to 255 characters. Names can contain uppercase and lowercase letters.

Can you name your child a number in the US?

Only letters from the English alphabet are acceptable. This rules out umlauts and tildes. Numbers and symbols are banned too. When one Wisconsin mom wanted to name her child a numeral, the state required that the number be spelled out.
