Question: Why do bearded lizards shed?

Bearded Dragons will shed due to either growth or replacing damaged skin. Bearded Dragons shedding due to growth: From 0 - 6 months old shedding is an almost weekly occurrence. So with growth, comes shedding.

Can you touch bearded dragons when they are shedding?

If your bearded dragon begins shedding, never ever pull the skin off yourself. Let nature do its work. Pulling the skin off before it is ready can injure your pet, and could cause bleeding and infections. It is tempting to pull it off the loose skin, but it is better to let the skin come off on its own.

How long do bearded dragons shed for?

around 2 to 3 weeks Typically, a fully body shed will take a bearded dragon around 2 to 3 weeks, but this time is much shorter when they are young. For those dragons which shed portions as opposed to the whole body, it can take a week or so to complete.
