Question: Do stag beetles kill each other?

Many stag beetles, both male and female, will fight and possibly kill each other if placed in the same case. Although in nature stag beetles often fight, if you keep one beetle per case, they will live longer, healthier lives.

Do stag beetles fight?

They will wrestle or fight other males using their enlarged antler-like jaws. Although they can fly, female beetles are most often seen walking around on the ground.

Why do stag beetles fight?

Stag beetles do not use their impressive jaws to eat, as you might expect, but rather to attract females and to fight and wrestle with other males over territory. This is because the force generated by muscles in the beetles head has to be transferred down to the end of each jaw, or mandible.
