Question: Why does ph sound like F?

The Romans. They translated Greek phi (φ) as ph and pronounced it closer to p than f. Native Latin words were spelled with the f. Ironically, a lot of Latin p-words became f-words (e.g., pedis became foot).

Which of the following doesnt have the letter pH an F sound?

There are 12,148 words in the dictionary Im using with ph in them and there are 87 words above. So only about 0.72% of ph words are not pronounced with an f sound. Cupholder... the answer to the OPs question is yes, many.
