Question: Can you use a cigarette lighter to charge your phone?

To charge a mobile device in a car via the cigarette lighter, you will need to use an adapter and a charging cable. Otherwise, it may damage the phone or it will not charge properly. Mobile devices usually run on 5V of power, so using the 12V cigarette lighter has potential risks.

Why wont the USB port in my car charge my phone?

If your car USB port isnt charging your phone, the problem could be with the port, the cable, or even the phone. Theres also a chance that there is a compatibility issue between the port and your phone, which may or may not be solved by using a different cable.

Can I charge my phone in the car?

Charging your phone while on the road could drain your cars battery, too. If you leave your car running on “accessory” — where your engine is off, but you still use the radio — the device will draw power from your cars battery as it charges.
