Question: What are the three types of projectors?

Video projectors use one of three main technologies: DLP, LCD, or Liquid-Crystal on Silicon (LCoS). Each technology offers its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. Depending on the type of content you want your projector to display, and the setup of your room, one of them might make more sense than the others.

What types of projectors are there?

Currently, there are five kinds of projectors you can get for your home: DLP, LCD, LED, LCOS, and laser.

What is a DLP projector used for?

DLP (Digital Light Processing) uses a chip made of tiny microscopic mirrors and a spinning colour wheel to create an image. DLP projectors deliver sharp images, dont need any filters, have a better response time as well as 3D capabilities.

Which projector type is best?

If you are on a budget a single chip LCD projector is ideal while 3-chip LCDs offer better colour saturation, lower noise levels and work better for movies. However, LCDs require constant filter maintenance and output less contrast. The LEDs in LED projectors have a lifespan of over 20,000 hours.

How many lumens does my projector need?

For home theater projectors where ambient light is kept to a minimum, youll need a minimum of 1500 lumens. For classrooms, conference rooms or rooms with windows, a projector with a minimum of 2500 lumens is best. For large auditoriums or lecture halls, youll need more lumens.

Are projectors as good as TV?

The better projectors also had far better contrast ratios, and therefore better image quality, than most TVs of the time. Short-throw projectors can help fit a projector into just about any room but they can still look washed out in brighter lighting. Life moves pretty fast. Technology even more so.
